The Riverhead Waves 9u travel baseball team won the Town of Brookhaven fall season championship last weekend.
The team finished the fall season with a 5-1 record, in second place in the league’s top division, to qualify for the fall tournament as the 4th seed.
On Oct. 15 under the lights at the Eastport Athletic Complex they took a playoff double-header with a 17-3 win over the North Shore Giants and a 13-2 victory over the Moriches Bay Red Devils, the team that handed the Waves their only regular-season loss.
All players on the team play in Riverhead Little League, said head coach Brian Miller. Eleven of the team’s 13 members were on the Riverhead Little League 10u All-Star team that competed in the Little League Worlds Series and won the District 36 Championship, he said. (District 36 covers almost all of Suffolk County.)
Team members are: Redding Palmeri, Ryan Quick,Michael Zambriski, Connor Miller, Chase Kwasna, Eddie Meier, Devin Caserta, Tyler Chattaway, Ben Micieli-Martinez, Travis Cote, Trey Edwards, Jason Hubbard and Crosby Palmeri.
The team is coached by Miller and assistant coaches Ed Meier, Mike Quick and Jason Kwasna.
The team was formed last year after the Riverhead Little League season ended and PAL football was canceled due to COVID.
