A rapidly developing low pressure system south of Long Island produce heavy rainfall across the region late tonight and tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service forecast. The front will also bring the potential for strong winds in our area, gusting up to 50 mph, the weather service said.
A flash flood watch is in effect for the region, including the twin forks, from this evening through tomorrow afternoon.
Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts are possible, the weather service said. Rainfall rates may exceed one inch per hour at times. Heavy rain may produce areas of flash flooding.
Northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are possible tomorrow, the weather service said in a wind advisory issued for eastern Suffolk County and New London and southern Middlesex counties in Connecticut. The wind advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. tomorrow to 6 a.m. Wednesday.
