Areas of blowing and drifting snow will limit visibility and make travel difficult this morning, the National Weather Service said in a statement. Travel may be hazardous.
Due to blowing and drifting snow, Sound Avenue is impassable on the eastern end of Riverhead Town early this morning, according to Riverhead Police radio reports. Other roads, such as Herricks Lane, are similarly impacted and also blocked by stranded vehicles.
Riverhead Highway Department crews have been out working to clear the roads of snow drifts.
Snow totals of one to two feet have been measured across Suffolk County by the National Weather Service and trained weather spotters. Wind gusts yesterday reached 55-60 mph, according to National Weather Service data.
Northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph are forecast. Wind chill values of -5° to -10° can be expected.
As of 6 a.m., 87 PSEG-LI customers were without power in an area along Sound Shore Road in Northville. A PSEG-LI repair crew is on its way, the company said. Estimated restoration time is 8 a.m. It was the only power outage in Suffolk County being reported by the utility company as of 6 a.m.
LIRR train service resumed at 5 a.m. There will be bus service between Ronkonkoma and Greenport and between Speonk on Montauk today due higher snowfall amounts and drifting snow on the East End, the LIRR said in a statement.
Hampton Jitney said yesterday it would resume regularly scheduled service today.
There has been no announcement yet about Suffolk County Transit Bus service today.
Cross Sound Ferry Services has canceled its 7 and 8 o’clock departures from Orient this morning.
