William Francis Taylor of Mattituck died on Feb. 2, 2022 at home. He was 88 years old.
He was born in 1933 in Stafford Springs, Connecticut to William L. and Catherine M. Taylor. He graduated from Stafford High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957 as a Staff Sergeant with the 62nd Troop Carrier Wing and was a crew chief on a C-124 Globemaster. After his service he attended the University of Connecticut, Porter School of Tool Design and Suffolk County Community College. He earned certificates in electronics technology.
He worked at Kaman Aircraft, Republic Aircraft, Hazeltine Corp. and K.G. Brown. He also worked for Brookhaven National Laboratory for 28 years as a technical project supervisor and retired in 1995. After his retirement he worked as a technical consultant for the BNL and was the owner of Doka Marine Products– a zinc foundry that manufactured fittings for the marine industry.
His hobbies included cooking, singing and attending Marshall Tucker concerts, reading, listening to the police/fire scanner, visiting the library, parasailing, riding in a NASCAR racer, skydiving and dedicating his life to Jesus.
He was predeceased by his grandson Ryan William Wheaton. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 62 years Joanne, children Terry Taylor-Terry of Riverhead, Nancy Taylor-Woolley (Mark) of Mattituck, Maria Montgomery (Michael) of Mattituck and Brian (Gloria) of Lake San Marcos, California, grandchildren Jasmine Corwin (Blake), Megan Finn, Olivia Finn, Christian Finn, Carter Montgomery and Taylor Montgomery and three great-grandchildren.
The family received friends on Sunday, Feb. 6 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Interment with U.S. Air Force Honors was held privately at the Cutchogue Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Mattituck-Laurel Library in his honor.
