The Jamesport Fire District will hold a vote Tuesday on a proposition authorizing the purchase of a 2.35-acre commercial parcel immediately north of the Jamesport Fire District headquarters site on Manor Lane for $1.275 million.
The proposition also authorizes the issuance of bonds in the amount of $925,000 to finance the acquisition and the appropriation of $1.155 million to buy the land, including $230,000 from building reserve fund. The district has already made a $120,000 down payment on the site.
Fire district commissioners agreed to seek to purchase the adjacent property when it became available.
“You get one opportunity the get the piece next to you,” said Commissioner Charles Thomas, chairman of the Jamesport Fire District Board of Commissioners.
Thomas said the district is not planning to expand its current facility or build anything new on the property.
The site is already developed with a warehouse and the district will be make good use of it for storage, Thomas said. The existing facility does not have a lot of storage space, he said.
The property would also be utilized for parking and for conducting training exercises, Thomas said.
The commissioners are considering a 20-year bond, the chairman said.
“I think it’s a good thing. It’s not going to impact our taxes,” Thomas said.
All residents registered in the district registered to vote with Suffolk County Board of Elections on or before Feb. 21 are eligible to vote in the election.
Voting will take place at the Jamesport Fire District Headquarters, located at 25 Manor Lane, from 3 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
