Next weekend, the Riverhead High School Blue Masques will present “SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical” at the Charles Cardona Auditorium at Riverhead High School. 

Performances are Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday at 7 p.m., and Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.. Tickets can be purchased in advance online and cost $5 for students and $10 for general admission. Seats can be reserved in advance for an extra $5 charge.

The musical is based on the long-running Nickelodeon animated television series of the same name created by Stephen Hillenburg. The musical features original songs written by more than a dozen different musical artists including David Bowie, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, The Plain White Ts, Panic at the Disco, and Cyndi Lauper.

The plot follows SpongeBob and his friends as the town of Bikini Bottom faces the total annihilation of their undersea world by a nearby volcano.

The musical stars Jacob Schiavone as SpongeBob SquarePants, Aydin Fideli as Patrick Star, Ava Sidik as Sandy Cheeks, Joseph Podlas as Squidward Tentacles, Matthew Nitti as Sheldon Plankton, Cruz Mendez as Eugene Krabs, Avery Rubino as Karen, and Brianna Tapia as Pearl Krabs.
