The Riverhead Water District’s annual flushing of water mains will start on the evening of April 17 and run until May 7.
Water main flushing is conducted to maintain water quality by cleaning the interior of the water distribution pipe with a rapid flow of water.
Most of the work will be done at night to minimize any inconvenience to the water district’s customers, according to a notice by the water district. During the three-week period, consumers should check their water before doing any washing. If the water is discolored, let the tap run for several minutes to clear.
Additional information about the flushing can be obtained by calling the water district at 631-727-3205 or 631-727-3200 ext. 338/339 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m..
