A collision between a truck and an SUV on Sound Avenue in Aquebogue sent two people to the hospital and closed the road to traffic this afternoon.

The crash occurred just west of Church Lane at about 2:45 p.m.

After colliding with the SUV, the truck crashed into a utility pole on the south side of the road. The front of the truck became lodged on the broken pole.

The driver of the SUV and a passenger were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The driver of the truck refused medical attention at the scene.

Sound Avenue was closed to traffic in both directions between Phillips Lane and Church Lane. It has been reopened to westbound traffic only. PSEG-LI has been requested to repair or replace the broken utility pole.

Jamesport Fire Department shut down the road at Church Lane and secured the vehicles from fire hazard and put down Speedy Dry.
