Riverhead Town Police reported 216 criminal incidents and made 69 arrests in August, and 183 criminal incidents and 79 arrests in September, according to reports released last week by Police Chief David Hegermiller.

For reference, 235 criminal incidents and 61 arrests were reported in July. Criminal incidents in August of this year were slightly up from 214 reported in 2021, while criminal incidents in September were slightly down from 190 reported in 2021.

Criminal incidents in August included arson (3), assault (2), burglary (6), criminal mischief (18), grand larceny (29), harassment (35), identity theft (11), petit larceny (82), robbery (1), stolen vehicle (4), graffiti (1), public lewdness (2) and sexual offense (2).

Criminal incidents in September included aggravated harassment (2), assault (5), burglary (3), criminal mischief (21), grand larceny (24), harassment (32), identity theft (7), petit larceny (69), robbery (1), stolen vehicle (1), graffiti (1), menacing (1) and endangering the welfare of a child (2).

Forty four people were arraigned for their alleged crimes in August and 50 were arraigned in September. Three people arrested in August, and one person arrested in September, were juveniles. The town issued a total of 1157 summonses (484 parking tickets) in August and 920 summonses (264 parking tickets) in September.

There were 2,926 non-criminal incidents in August and 2,788 in September. Among them were two non-fatal overdoses in August and three non-fatal overdoses in September.
