Rain and strong winds continue this morning as a low pressure system moves up the coast and passes southeast of Long Island today, according to the National Weather Service.

Rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected across the region, as temperatures reach the mid to upper 40s today on the East End.

A wind advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. Northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts go 45 to 50 mph expected.

A flood advisory is in effect from noon today until 7 p.m. Widespread minor to locally moderate flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the Peconic and Gardiners bays, and the Long Island Sound waterfront and shoreline during the times of high tide, according to the advisory. Around 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying, vulnerable areas. Roads and low-lying property near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding and vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront may become flooded., the weather service said. Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays.

A gale warning is in effect for the waters of the Long Island Sound, Peconic and Gardiners bays and The Atlantic Ocean.

The coastal low will move out of the area tonight, according to the NWS forecast. Weather in the local region will dry out tomorrow and remain dry until the middle of next week, with temperatures slightly below normal, the National Weather Service says. Forecasters are keeping an eye on two low pressure systems that may come together to impact the eastern seaboard late next week.
