For the first time since the discovery of the ransomware attack on Suffolk County government systems in September, the Suffolk County Legislature will return to Riverhead this week.
The legislature’s committees will meet this week in the Maxine Postal Legislative Auditorium at the Evans K. Griffing County Center in Riverside.
The committee meetings take place in advance of the legislature’s next general meeting, which will also take place in Riverhead on Tuesday, March 7 beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Legislator Krupski, who represents the First Legislative District, stated “It’s always good to provide access to all residents across our large, diverse County. Having committees and General Meetings of the Legislature in Riverhead allows for voices from the East End to be heard.”
A number of key issues affecting the North Fork will be up for discussion this week and during the general meeting next week, First District Legislator Al Krupski said in a press release announcing the East End meetings.
“in particular there will be two public hearings during the general meeting on March 7,” Krupski said. “The first, IR 1059, “Appropriating funds in connection with Preserving Farmland for the Future (CP 8701),” would appropriate $10 million dollars to preserve farmland within Suffolk County in order to meet the goal of preserving 10,000 more acres of farmland within the county,” Krupski said.
“The second, IR 1096, “A Local Law to Amend the Hotel and Motel Tax Law,” would double the hotel and motel tax levied on any person staying in hotel room within Suffolk County to 5%,” Krupski said. “It would also change the allocation of cultural funds provided to cultural organizations within the East End, capping the amount at $1 million. The resolution also establishes a ‘Suffolk County Infrastructure Fund.”
Remote testimony by Zoom video conferencing will not be available for the public during either the committee week or for the March 7 general meeting.
People interested in addressing the legislature may do so in person or by written testimony sent by email to Frank.Tassone@suffolkcountyny.gov or by regular mail to the attention of the Clerk’s Office at the Suffolk County Legislature, P.O. Box 6100, Hauppauge, NY 11788. Audio testimony will be accepted via phone at 631-853-3685; callers may leave a 3-minute message. Submitted comments will be distributed to legislators.
