Patricia Callas of Baiting Hollow died on June 1, 2023, due to complications of pancreatic cancer. She was 85 years old.
Born in Drumlish, County Longford, Ireland, Patricia came to the United States in 1957. She met her husband William in 1963, and they married on Oct. 30, 1965. They built their first home in Ronkonkoma, where they raised their children. Patricia was a devoted mother to William (Lorraine), Deborah (Dennis), and Melissa (Raymond). She was also a loving grandmother to Dennis, Patrick, Kathleen, Meghan, and John.
Her family said Patricia was known for her love of everything Irish, such as traditional Irish music, home decor, movies, and anything else that reminded her of home. She often treated family and friends to her special Irish Soda Bread, a recipe she shared with her children. She, along with William, were known for hosting legendary family parties that often lasted into the early mornings. Music, laughter, and food – especially her spaghetti au gratin and macaroni salad – were enjoyed by all for many years.
Patricia was a dedicated woman of God, and her strong beliefs and faith were central to her life, her family said. Above all, she cherished her family and enjoyed gathering with them to celebrate holidays and milestones.
In 1997, her husband Bill retired from Con Edison, and they became full-time grandparents, never missing the opportunity to provide care or attend their grandchildren’s events. They also pursued their passion for world travel, going on numerous cruises and trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Italy, and Ireland, among other destinations.
Patricia is survived by her husband, William; her children, William (Lorraine), Deborah (Dennis), and Melissa (Raymond); and her grandchildren, Dennis, Patrick, Kathleen, Meghan, and John.
