Another Route 58 chain store is conducting liquidation sales.

Christmas Tree Shops is closing all 70 of its stores, including 11 in New York. Going out of business sales are ongoing, with the last stores expected to permanently close by the end of August.

Founded in Cape Cod, Massachusetts in 1970, the store expanded in New England through the ‘80s and ‘90s and was acquired by Bed Bath & Beyond in 2003.

Bed Bath & Beyond sold Christmas Tree Shops to the privately owned Handil Holdings in November 2020.

Christmas Tree Shops announced on May 4 it planned to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, hoping to restructure its debt and remain operational. It filed its bankruptcy petition in Delaware the next day, less than two weeks after its former parent company, Bed Bath & Beyond, sought bankruptcy protection in the New Jersey Bankruptcy Court.

After Christmas Tree Shops defaulted on a $45 million loan, the bankruptcy proceeding was converted to Chapter 7 liquidation.

Christmas Tree Shops occupies one of the largest spaces at 1751-1791 Old Country Road, a 119,000-square-foot shopping center that opened in 2013, where other tenants include Dick’s Sporting Goods, Aldi, Buffalo Wild Wings, Shah’s Halal, Five Below, Starbucks, The Vitamin Shoppe, and Vivi Nails & Spa.
