Forty-seven current and former Riverhead High School students have been recognized by the College Board as AP Scholars, according to school district officials.

A group of 25 current students — including two juniors — and 22 graduates received the recognition by the College Board, the organization that administers the advanced placement exams.

“I am extremely proud of the many opportunities available at Riverhead High School.  Congratulations to all of our students who have been recognized by the College Board for their academic achievements,” Riverhead High School Principal Sean O’Hara said in a statement.

There are three different AP Scholar designations: AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor and AP Scholar with Distinction. Thirty-one Riverhead High School students and graduates received the designation of AP Scholar, granted to students who receive scores of three or higher on three or more AP Exams. Eight received the designation of AP Scholar with Honor, granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of the exams. Eight students received the designation of AP Scholar with Distinction, granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
