Today is Election Day. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Find your polling place on the State Board of Elections website.

Voters in Riverhead this year will choose a town supervisor, two council members, and a town clerk in contested elections.

Incumbents running for re-election for town assessors (two), receiver of taxes and town justice are running unopposed.

See: Election Guide: 2023 for candidate profiles, sample ballot, interview transcripts and links to video recordings of candidate forums.

Voters will also pick a new county legislator in the First Legislative District, a seat left vacant by the decision of the incumbent not to seek re-election, and choose a new county executive, as the present incumbent was prevented by the county’s term limits law from seeking another term.

Also on the ballot this year are four State Supreme Court Justice candidates, all running unopposed.

There are two statewide propositions on the ballot, both pertaining to amendments to the New York State Constitution. One would lift the special constitutional debt limit on small city school districts. The other would extend for 10 years the authority of counties, cities, towns and villages to remove from their constitutional debt limits debt for the construction of sewage facilities.
