A man was killed at a Calverton industrial plant yesterday when an automatic door closed on him, pinning him between two parts of the door, Riverhead Police said in a press release last night.

Thomas Sevier of Port Jefferson Station, age 56, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said Sevier was found by two other men, who were able to free him and begin CPR, while calling 911 for help.

Responding officers said Sevier was unconscious and not breathing when they arrived at the scene.

Police said it appeared that Sevier was attempting to enter the facility at Old Castle Precast, 931 Burman Boulevard in Calverton, through a partially opened large hangar door there. As he was doing so, the hangar door closed, police said, pinning him between two portions of the door.

Two other men found him and were able to free him using a forklift, then began CPR, according to the report. Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and attempted life-saving measures, police said, but Sevier succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Police did not state the time of the incident in the press release.

The Riverhead Detective Division is investigating the incident and ask anyone with information to call Riverhead Town Police at 631-727-4500.
