A 36-year-old man, described by police as undomiciled, is facing a first-degree robbery charge after forcibly removing another man’s sunglasses at knifepoint on Griffing Avenue near Railroad Avenue Sunday night, Riverhead Police reported in a press release this morning.
Police said the victim, a 19-year-old male, called 911 to report the robbery at about 9:55 p.m. He told police an unknown male had displayed a knife, demanded money and forcibly removed the victim’s Oakley sunglasses at knifepoint before fleeing on foot.
The victim was able to provide responding officers with a description of the man and police located and detained a man who matched the description in area.
Police said Noah McDermott, undomiciled, was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of Robbery in the First Degree.
He was processed and held for arraignment, police said.
The investigation remains ongoing, police said. Anyone that may have witnessed the incident or has information pertaining to the case is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department at (631) 727-4500. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
