Riverhead Police arrested four people yesterday after conducting tobacco and vape compliance checks at 11 retail vendors throughout Riverhead Town.
The compliance checks, conducted Tuesday by the department’s Community Oriented Policing Enforcement (COPE) Division with the help of the Riverhead Community Awareness Program, targeted the sale of tobacco and vape products to people under the age of 21.
Four vendors were found to be out of compliance, according to a Riverhead Police press release: Gotham Smoke in Riverhead; Bola Mobil Gas in Riverhead; Bapa Card and Gift in Riverhead; and Sunoco Gas in Calverton.
Four people were arrested and charged with one count of second degree Unlawful Dealing with a Child, a Class B Misdemeanor, according to a Riverhead Police press release. Those arrested were Heldin Medina Guerrero, 45, of Mastic Beach; Yash Sharma, 23, of Riverhead; Kaushal (no first name), 23, of Calverton; and Yefris Moreno, 24, of Selden. All were processed and released on a desk appearance ticket with a future court date.
Seven vendors were found to be in compliance: Tobacco King in Jamesport; American gas in Aquebogue; Empire Gas in Aquebogue; 7-Eleven in Riverhead; BP Gas in Riverhead; One Stop Smoke Shop in Riverhead and Mobil Gas in Calverton.
