Retail clerks at four locations in the Town of Riverhead were arrested during a town-wide sweep conducted by the Riverhead Police Department yesterday to check for compliance with state laws in the sale of alcohol products.
Four people were charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child in the First Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, police said:
- Liah Maria Martin, 26, Yaphank, an employee of Sabor Deli Latino, 192 Old Country Road, Riverhead;
- Katerine Lizeth Vasquez Guardado, 23, of Riverhead, an employee of Sound Avenue Liquors, 5085 Sound Avenue, Riverhead;
- Juan Jerez Gutierrez, 55, of Riverhead, an employee of MG Deli of Riverhead, 999 East Main Street, Riverhead; and
- Cruz Pixtun Suret, 58, of Riverhead, an employee of Pueblo Latino Deli, 719 East Main Street, Riverhead.
They were processed and released on desk appearance tickets with a future court date, police said.
The compliance check targeted the sale of alcohol products to patrons under the age of 21 and was conducted by the police department’s Community Oriented Police Enforcement (COPE) Division, with cooperation from the Riverhead Community Awareness Program (CAP), police said in a press release.
Eight vendors checked during the action were found to be in compliance, police said:
- The Thirsty Cellar, 6324 Rt. 25A, Wading River
- Valero Gas, 5904 Rt. 25A, Wading River
- Gulf Gas Station, 1879 Old Country Road, Riverhead
- One Stop Smoke Shop, 1698 Old Country Road, Riverhead
- JD Grocery and Deli, 873 Old Country Road, Riverhead
- Gala Fresh, 795 Old Country Road, Riverhead
- El Chapincito, 800 East Main Street, Riverhead
- F.A. Grocery, 733 East Main Street, Riverhead
