Riverhead Police arrested three people on charges of unlawfully dealing with a child during a check of retail vendors for compliance with minimum age and other State Liquor Authority regulations yesterday.
Police said employees at three locations were arrested: William Varrone, 71, of Calverton, an employee of Stop and Stop in Riverhead, Kashmir Singh, 32, of Calverton, an employee of Bolla Market in Calverton and Tyler Schultz, 26, of Wading River, an employee of Speedway in Wading River, who were each charged with one count of Unlawfully Dealing with a Child in the First Degree, in violation of New York State Penal Law 260.20(2), a class A misdemeanor. They were processed and released on appearance tickets for a future court date, police said.
Riverhead Town Police Community Oriented Police Enforcement
(COPE) Division, with cooperation from the Riverhead Community Awareness Program (CAP), conducted the State Liquor Authority compliance checks at 12 retail vendors in the Town of Riverhead, police said in a press release.
The compliance check targeted the sale of alcohol products to patrons under the age of 21, police said.
The following vendors were found to be in compliance:
- Village Beverage, 2051 Wading River Manor Road, Wading River
- The Thirsty Cellar, 6324 NY-25A, Unit 4, Wading River
- Valero, 5904 NY-25A, Wading River
- Wines by Nature, 5768 NY-25A, Suite I, Wading River
- BP, 4670 NY-25, Calverton
- Walmart, 1890 Old Country Road, Riverhead
- Riverhead Liquor Mart, 1866 Old Country Road, Riverhead
- 7-Eleven, 162 Old Country Road, Riverhead
- One Stop Smoke Shop, 1698 Old Country Road, Riverhead
