The Riverhead Highway Department will begin town-wide loose leaf pickup on Dec. 2.

Pickup will take place over three weeks with the town divided into three segments:

Dec. 2 – Dec. 6: Laurel Lane to Northville Turnpike
Dec. 9 – Dec. 13: Northville Turnpike to Hulse Landing Road
Dec. 16 – Dec. 20: Hulse Landing Road to Brookhaven Town Line

The town highway department will make only one pass through each area.

Remember:

  • Put leaves in one pile. Do not rake leaves in a line across the front of your property.
  • Do not put leaves in the street. Keep leaves on your property.
  • Do not block drains, vehicular or pedestrian traffic.
  • Put leaves out just before your scheduled pickup week. Until then, you must bag your leaves for pickup by the town’s municipal carter on the bulk/yard waste pickup day in your district.

Leaves or other yard waste placed out for collection in a way that impedes the flow of vehicular or pedestrian traffic is a violation of Town Code (103-22.)

This pick-up is for residents only. The town highway department will not pick up landscapers’ leaves.
