Riverhead Town Police reported 160 criminal offenses and arrested 74 people on 87 criminal charges in December, according to a monthly crime report released by Police Chief Ed Frost this month.

The criminal offense data reported by the Riverhead Police Department complies with the National Incident-Based Reporting System implemented by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and in use by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. The department began transitioning to a new records-management system in May to comply with federal and state changes to how crime data is reported and tracked. The transition was completed and in full use as of July.

Riverhead Police reported filing 87 criminal charges, including two against juveniles.

Riverhead Police arrested 72 adults (53 males, 19 females) and two juveniles (males) on the above-listed charges, according to the report.
Out of the 74 individuals arrested, 42 were held for arraignment.
The town issued 700 summonses in December: 30 for town code violations, 476 traffic tickets and 156 parking tickets.
There were 2,442 non-criminal incidents reported by Riverhead Police in December.
Police reported 161 motor vehicle accidents in Riverhead Town in December. None were fatal; 21 were classified as minor. Sixteen accidents involved deer.
