Robert K. Simon of Peconic died on Feb. 22, 2025. He was 85 years old.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1939, in Oceanside, to Jane (Neely) and Philip Simon. He was one of two children. After high school, he attended SUNY Oswego, where he attained his Bachelor of Science degree, followed by C.W. Post, where he earned his master’s degree. He continued his graduate studies at NYU and Brooklyn College. In August 2015, he married Janet Lowry in Delhi. Robert worked as an industrial arts teacher for the Jericho School District and volunteered as a firefighter with the Jericho Fire Department, Engine & Ladder Company, Heavy Duty Rescue #1, Badge 137.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Betty Ann. He is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Philip of Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania, Barbara Takach of Nissequogue, Robert of Pocono Pines, Pennsylvania, and Brenda Smith of Onancock, Virginia; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold, where funeral services will be held during the visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society in Delhi would be appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
