The second annual “We Huddle to Help” flag football event took place Saturday at Stotzky Park in Riverhead to support local food pantries. The event featured a canned goods food drive and flag football games, with a halftime show and special guest Gary Brown, an offensive tackle who helped the Green Bay Packers win the 1997 Super Bowl.

The event was “a success” bringing together kids, young adults and members of the Riverhead Police Department for a fun afternoon of flag football and community support, said event organizer Mark McLaughlin. “It was a humbling experience,” he said.

“We can’t wait to distribute all the food and resources we collected. We had to do something to make sure those who are in need are taken care of,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to doing it again next year,” McLaughlin said.
