Fire damaged a pizzeria in Wading River Square on Route 25A overnight.
The fire started at Pazzo Wood Fired Pizzeria shortly before 2 a.m. when the alarm came into Wading River Fire Department, Wading River Fire Chief Mark Donnelly said this morning. A bakery and a bagel store, which adjoin the pizzeria shop on either side, suffered smoke and water damage, Donnelly said.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the pizza shop, Donnelly said. It was damaged inside and on the exterior of the front of the store.

Firefighters from Riverhead, Ridge, Middle Island and Rocky Point fire departments were among those that responded to Wading River’s request for mutual aid. Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps sent a rig to Wading River Fire Department to stand by in case EMS was needed in Wading River’s district while its rescue units were at the fire.
The fire was brought under control and the scene was turned over to the Riverhead Fire Marshal and Suffolk County Police Arson Squad at about 5:30 a.m. for investigation into the cause of the fire, which remains unknown this morning, Donnelly said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500 Ext. 312.
The pizza, bagel shop and bakery occupy the eastern building in Wading River Square.
Hank Isak, whose family owns and operates Ravaas Bagels, said he hopes repairs and clean-up can be accomplished quickly. “It’s a mess, a lot of damage,” Isak said. “There’s nothing we can do.” His family just opened the bagel shop two months ago and can’t afford to be out of business for an extended period.
