Eight Riverhead High School seniors were honored yesterday during the school’s annual spring signing day for senior athletes.
Collectively, the students committed to six different colleges and universities.
“They’ve put in such hard work throughout their time as an athlete here in Riverhead,” said Melissa Edwards, the school district’s director of health, physical education, recreation and athletics. “So this is our opportunity as an athletic department to thank them and their families and to really give them the support that they need to go off and tackle the next level,” Edwards said.
“The balance they have to constantly deal with — academics, sports, personal lives, family. There’s a lot…it’s something to be very proud of and I truly am,” she said.
Refreshments were on hand after the signings courtesy of the Riverhead Athletic Club.

Kyleigh Lennon committed to Wingate University to play lacrosse.
Abigail Maaiki committed to SUNY at Cortland to play lacrosse.
William Healy committed to Western Connecticut State University to play football.
Emma Hughes Kennedy committed to Lincoln Memorial University to play field hockey and lacrosse.
Adriana Martinez committed to Clark University to play softball.
Nathan Nentwich committed to Dean College to play lacrosse.
Kevin Qualey committed to Wingate Universiry to play lacrosse.
