The Memorial Day parade scheduled for Monday in Riverhead are canceled due to anticipated inclement weather. Ceremonies are also canceled, except that a small ceremony at the monument on the corner of Pulaski Street and Osborn Avenue may be held at 1 p.m. if it’s not raining.

“We’re pulling the plug,” Riverhead VFW Commander Thomas Najdzion told RiverheadLOCAL Sunday afternoon. “I hate doing it,” he said, but the forecast calling for heavy rain Monday morning left organizers with no choice.

Sunday evening, Najdzion said there may be a small ceremony at 1 p.m. Monday at the monument outside Pulaski Street school if it’s not raining.

There has been no announcement about ceremonies at Calverton National Cemetery, which are slated to begin at 1 p.m.
