Riverhead residents should put their garbage and recycling at the curb earlier than usual Thursday and Friday because of anticipated extreme heat.
The town’s residential garbage contractor, Colucci Carting, will begin residential garbage and recycling collection one hour earlier on Thursday, July 2, and Friday, July 3, town officials said in a media advisory issued Wednesday.
The change is intended to allow crews to complete their routes before peak afternoon temperatures.
Residents are asked to place all waste curbside by 5 a.m.
The regular collection schedule will resume Monday, July 6, the town said in the advisory. Residents can check the town website for updates or call the Riverhead Sanitation Department at 631-727-3200, ext. 391.
