Firefighters have plenty of experience dealing with heat and smoke, but that combination is not something that’s typically encountered at the annual Jamesport Fire Department parade.
That’s exactly what parade participants and spectators experienced Wednesday evening, though, when high heat and humidity combined with smoky conditions from wildfires in Canada. It didn’t discourage throngs of spectators from lining up along Main Road to watch the big parade pass by.
Dozens of fire departments and EMS from across the county and a variety of local community groups marched in this year’s big parade, one of summer’s annual favorites on the North Fork.
The fireman’s bazaar has been underway since Tuesday, offering carnival rides, games of chance, food, treats and cold beverages. The bazaar continues tonight from 6 to 10 p.m., Friday from 6 to 11 p.m. and Saturday from 5 to 11 p.m. with a fireworks finale scheduled for Saturday night at 10 o’clock.
