EPCAL recreation trail

The bike path and walking trail at Veterans Memorial Park, along with all woods and fields in the park, will be closed for the month of January, when  the special shotgun hunting season for deer takes place.

Town-owned property at the Calverton Enterprise Park, including the recreational path, will be closed to the public for the month of January due to shotgun hunting for deer on the property Jan. 1-31.

On-street bike rentals are now available around downtown Riverhead and at the recreation trail at Veterans Memorial Park in Calverton. With a smart phone app, bikes can be rented hourly, daily or through an annual membership.

A tiny, overgrown family cemetery tucked into the Calverton woods may soon get some long-overdue TLC, thanks to the efforts of an Eagle Scout candidate.

Triple Five's plans for the EPCAL site loomed large on the minds of some people who attended the recreational trail ribbon-cutting this morning.

Officials snipped the ceremonial ribbon on the recreational trail at the Calverton Enterprise Park July 1 and residents hopped on their bicycles and went for a spin.

Town officials are having a hard time keeping bicyclists and hikers off the trail, despite signs posted at trail entrances advising the public that because the town allows deer hunting at the park during the special shotgun season..
