PC worries prevent meaningful discussion of the very real impacts of illegal immigration on local schools.

Riverhead supervisor candidate Anthony Coates on the debate about immigration taking place in Riverhead Town Hall: "Hooping and hollering about 'Illegals' may get you some headlines and maybe some votes but what’s left behind is resentment and the ashes that can kindle a fire."

Victoriano Cohon-Garcia, 34, began drinking after word of his father's death arrived from Guatemala, according to Sister Margaret Smyth. "Once he started he was never able to pull himself out of that." It's a widespread problem in the local Latino immigrant community, she said.
