A ‘race’ for East End cardiac cath lab: State to decide between Peconic Bay and Southampton for much-needed facility

“We are in a race to get a cardiac cath lab in the Town of Riverhead,” Supervisor Sean Walter said last week. The state health department will approve only one cardiac cath lab on the East End, he said, but both PBMC and Southampton Hospital have applications pending for cardiac catheterization facilities.

An OR smoke detector went off after the motor on a rooftop air-conditioning unit burnt out, Riverhead Fire Chief Kevin Brooks said. The the air intake on a second, adjacent rooftop unit fed air into the surgical pavilion that “smelled pretty bad,” Brooks said. That tripped a smoke detector in OR-5, he said.
