The long-awaited replacement of the Wading River beach playground is set to take place over the next two weeks, along with the installation of another new playground near the ballfields at the Calverton Enterprise Park (EPCAL).

Damage to the skate park's infrastructure was more extensive than either the parks department or the repair company anticipated. Total repairs costs are now estimated at around $90,000, up from $49,000.

Riverhead’s parks are in such disrepair that portions of them are being shut down – but the town doesn’t have the money to fix them.

Stotzky Park will get a new playground in time for next spring, if the Riverhead Town Board approves a proposal put together by Councilman George Gabrielsen and parks and recreation superintendent Raymond Coyne.
