Beverly Schmidt of Jamesport was honored by the Riverhead Town Board yesterday for her 11-year effort to keep Tuthills Lane litter-free. The board approved the hiring of a longtime friend of the supervisor to the position of his executive assistant at a $75,000 annual salary. It also approved a $13,000 insurance policy rider to protect the town from claims arising from computer hacking.
