The operator of Scott’s Pointe amusement park in Calverton pleaded guilty Tuesday to town code violations in Riverhead Justice Court and was ordered to pay $5,700 in fines.

Riverhead Industrial Development Agency board members gave no indication yesterday that the agency would claw back tax benefits granted to the operator of Scott’s Pointe for violating the terms of the company’s agreement with the IDA.

Island Water Park, operator of Scott’s Pointe, is in danger of losing its tax exemptions from the Riverhead Industrial Development Agency for allegedly violating Riverhead Town law and failing to maintain the nearly 300 full-time employees it promised under its agreement with the agency.

Riverhead Republican Committee Vice Chairman Victor Prusinowski said he'd reached a settlement with the town attorney's office on behalf of Scott's Pointe, but the town justice adjourned the case because Prusinowski is not an attorney or a company principal.

The DEC has now issued tickets to Island Water Park and its president Eric Scott alleging violations of its permit conditions, a week after a notice of violation ordered the Scott's Pointe operator to cease use of the aquapark and other public recreation activities in the groundwater-fed pond.

Riverhead Town is asking a court to temporarily shut down Scott’s Pointe amusement park in Calverton until the property gets in compliance with town law, according to a lawsuit filed in Suffolk County Supreme Court last week.

The Riverhead Town Board yesterday authorized a legal action against Island Water Park in State Supreme Court to stop “the illegal use and occupancy” of its Scott’s Pointe property in Calverton.
