The man shot by an off-duty law enforcement officer as he allegedly tried to break into the officer’s Riverhead home Wednesday is hospitalized in critical condition after emergency surgery, Suffolk Police said. No charges have been filed and an investigation is ongoing.

A Flanders man is in critical condition after a shooting on East Main Street near Town Hall Friday night. Police search for two possible perpetrators, who fled the scene in an unknown direction.

“We do not believe it was a random shooting,” Riverhead Police Chief David Hegermiller said this morning. “We don’t know all the details but we believe it’s between him and someone he knows.”

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Southampton Town Police detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the individual or people responsible for a shooting that injured a Riverside teenager earlier this month.

Riverhead Police said the shooting was not a random act — the victim and shooter do know each other — and that it has 'no connection' with the shooting on Main Street last month.

A 19-year-old male was shot twice in the back while walking home on East Avenue late Friday night. Riverhead police are searching for two gunmen, described by the victim as Hispanic males. The victim was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for surgery.
