The Riverhead High School NJROTC Drill Team took home nine trophies and finished first overall out of 14 schools from N.Y., N.J., Conn., and Penn. that competed at the North Rockland Drill Meet on Saturday, March 20. This is the largest NJROTC drill meet held in the northeast region and a qualifier for the Area Four Championship meet to be held in May. Teams competed in numerous events to include Armed and Unarmed Platoon Drill, Color Guard, Academics and Physical Fitness.
Noteworthy performances by the team were as follows:
Varsity Armed Platoon – 2nd Place led by Peter Rodriguez
Varsity Color Guard – 2nd Place led by Joshua Bieling
Varsity Academics – 2nd Place led by Matthew Mulvaney
Varsity Personnel Inspection – 2nd Place led by Corrine Matlak
Varsity Unarmed Platoon – 3rd Place led by Amanda Gallo
Physical Fitness Team – 4th Place led by Ryan Budd
Varsity Overall – First Place
1st Year Cadet Personnel Inspection – 1st Place led by Cody Harris
1st Year Cadet Team Knockout – 1st Place led by Veronica Jacobson
1st Year Cadet Overall – 3rd Place
The Unit thanks all the parents and friends who made the trip to support the cadets.
The Drill Team will be going to Colts Neck, NJ to compete in the Northeast Championships on May 15.
The NJROTC Unit will be taking a trip to Parris Island, SC over the spring break to experience Marine Corps Boot Camp see the recruits graduate on April 2. This should be a very motivating and educational experience.
