RIVERHEAD HIGH SCHOOL VALEDICTORIAN KATHERINE SKINNER WINS SAMMY AWARD
Katie Skinner has added a milk moustache to her many awards.
The Milk Processor Education Program (MilkPEP) and USA TODAY recently announced that Katherine Skinner has been chosen as one of the 25 winners of the 13th annual ‘Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year’ (SAMMY 2010) Award Program. She was selected from a pool of more than 41,000 applicants.
SAMMY 2010 Winners were chosen based on five criteria: academic
performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service, and the milk experience essay. Preliminary judging was conducted by a qualified group of educators and coaches who selected the 75 finalists, three from each of the 25 Milk Prize Regions. Finally, a panel of celebrity judges including including Andy Roddick, Michelle Kwan, Steve Nash, Dara Torres, and Chauncey Billups selected the final winners.
As a winner, Katie will receive the following:
* A $7,500 college scholarship from Milk which will be forwarded directly to Princeton University.
* An invitation for her and her parents to attend a SAMMY 2010 weekend at the Disney World Complex in Orlando, FL, scheduled for June 25 – 27, 2010.
* An opportunity to be pictured in special congratulatory Milk Mustache ads in a June 2010 edition of USA TODAY and other national publications.
