Riverhead Kennel Club held its 81st All-Breed Dog Show and Obedience Trial this weekend at Suffolk County Community College in Riverhead.
“Ch Starline’s Chanel,” also known as “Cha Cha,” of Rancho Santa Fe, California won All-Breed Best in Show yesterday.
It was the 53rd All-Breed Best in Show for Cha Cha, according to her handler Lori Wilson, of Joplin, Missouri. Cha Cha, who won First Place in the Hound Group at Westminster Kennel Club show in 2010, is the top-winning Whippet bitch in history, according to her owner’s website.
The three-year-old Whippet is owned by Lori Lawrence of Starline Arabians and Whippets.
The Whippet was recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club in 1888. A miniature English Greyhound, the Whippet is the fastest domesticated animal of its weight — 15-30 pounds — capable of speeds of up to 35 m.p.h., according to the American Kennel Club.
The winners of seven variety groups — Toy, Sporting, Non-Sporting, Hound, Terrier, Working and Herding — competed for the Best in Show award.
