2012 0722 motorized drill

Hundreds of spectators and about 18 fire departments gathered at the Riverhead Fire Department drill track Saturday afternoon for Riverhead’s 26th annual motorized drill.

The Riverhead Ironmen drill team fell to West Sayville, who took first place overall with 28 points. West Sayville placed in seven out of the eight events while the Ironmen did not place in any of the events.

Central Islip broke the state record in the “Motor Hose class B” event, running 7.59s to beat the previous record of 7.64s, which was held by North Lindenhurst.

Bay Shore almost held a new state record in the “Motor Hose Class C” event when their unofficial time came in as 12.14s. The state record was 12.15s. They ended with “no time” after verification that their equipment was not within specifications because water ran too fast through their hose.

Events consisted of the three-man ladder, “B” ladder, “C” ladder, “C” hose, “B” hose, efficiency, motor pump and buckets.

Teams were awarded five points for first place, four for second place, three for third place, two for fourth place and one for fifth place.
