Talmage Farm Agway is accepting donations of food items and pet supplies on behalf of the Suffolk County SPCA for distribution to areas hard-hit by Super Storm Sandy.

Dog and cat food, blankets, bowls, leashes, kitty litter are all urgently needed, said Suffolk SPCA Chief Roy Gross.

Donors can bring items to Talmage Farm Agway during the store’s regular business hours:  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m.- 6  p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The store is located at 1122 Osborn Avenue, Riverhead NY 11901. See map.

Gross said that the agency will be driving through storm-ravaged areas in marked vehicles distributing pet food and supplies.

He also said volunteers are needed to help staff the Mobile Animal Hospital (MASH Unit) where dogs and cats are currently being sheltered.

“We also need volunteers who will be trained to staff the shelters in the event we get hit again with another disaster,” Gross said.

Anyone who can help with donations or who wishes to volunteer is asked to call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.
