Two people were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center Sunday after a hit-and-run in front of J&R’s Steakhouse at about 11:45 a.m.

A small black SUV headed eastbound on Route 25 stopped short in the vicinity of Fresh Pond Avenue, causing a beige Jeep Wrangler to rear-end the SUV, which was subsequently rear-ended by a grey Hyundai Elantra, according to the female driver and sole occupant of the Jeep.

The Jeep driver said she witnessed the passenger of the black SUV exit the vehicle after the accident and examine the damage before getting back into the vehicle and leaving the scene.

The driver of the Jeep, a Wading River resident, and the male driver of the Elantra, a Rocky Point resident, were uninjured in the accident. The driver of the Elantra said his girlfriend and girlfriend’s mother were also in the car at the time of the accident. They were both taken to the hospital, he said. His girlfriend, a backseat passenger, complained of arm pain and his girlfriend’s mother, the front seat passenger, complained of neck pain and was transported in a neck brace. Everyone had seat belts on, the driver added.

The Elantra was towed from the scene.
