…Winter storm impacts the area today…
…Winter weather advisory remains in effect until 6 pm EST this evening…
* Locations…Eastern and southwest Suffolk…and southern Nassau counties.
* Hazard types…Snow and freezing rain.
* Accumulations…Snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches…along with around a trace of ice. Highest snow and ice amounts will be across northern Long Island.
* Timing…Heavy snow early this morning will briefly change to freezing rain before changing to heavy rain later this morning. Rain then changes back to wintry mix in the late afternoon before tapering off as snow.
* Winds…aast 10 to 20 mph…becoming northeast this afternoon.
* Temperatures…In the mid 30s.
* Visibilities…One-quarter mile or less at times.
* Snowfall rates…briefly 1 to 2 inches per hour this morning.
* Impacts…Hazardous travel due to reduced visibilities and snow accumulations for the morning commute. Untreated roadways will likely become icy for the evening commute.
