A Suffolk County Police helicopter takes off with one of two crash victims at Riverhead Raceway Sunday afternoon.

One woman was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital this afternoon and a second was transported by ambulance following a go-kart accident at Riverhead Raceway this afternoon.

One driver spun out and the second driver crashed into the first one head-on at a high rate of speed, according to officials.

A Suffolk County Police aviation unit responded to transport one victim who suffered a fractured ankle. Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the second victim, who was complaining of back and neck pain, to Stony Brook by ambulance.

Riverhead Fire Department responded to secure the landing zone in the middle of the quarter-mile oval at the raceway.
