Riverhead firefighters doused a snowmobile fire in a farm field at the end of Zdunko Lane this afternoon.

Capt. Chris Fleischman, the first officer on scene, reported to the chiefs that firefighters would need a brush truck to get to the vehicle, which was fully engulfed, First Assistant Chief Kevin Brooks said.

Two brush trucks responded with two engines and approximately 40 firefighters., Brooks said.

One brush truck was able to extinguish the fire, which was in a farm lot approximately a half-mile off the road.

No injuries were reported in the incident, reported at about 3:15 p.m. The snowmobile was a total loss.
