More vehicle break-ins in Wading River have been reported to Riverhead Town Police along with the burglary of a house that netted thieves goods valued at more than $20,000. The new thefts follow at least eight other vehicle break-ins that occurred in the area earlier last week.

At least 11 vehicle break-ins were reported to police between February 16 and February 18 on Fairway Drive, 20th and 21st Street, Karen Court and Farm Road. There were an additional four larcenies reported in this area during that time, though a police press report did not contain any information about the nature of these larcenies.
Most of the cars appeared to be unlocked, according to the press report. Some vehicles did not have anything missing, including one car which was reported as “ransacked.” Other vehicles were missing spare change and gift cards. One vehicle had a $100 bill stolen from within.
Riverhead Police Chief David Hegermiller said he did not have any information on the incidents this afternoon because he was not in the office and did not have the file in front of him.
There was also a burglary of a Wading River home in the early morning hours of February 19. A house located on Deer Run, which is in the same neighborhood as several of the vehicle break-ins, was broken into through the basement window, according to the press report. A safe containing jewelry, video game equipment and other items valued at about $20,000 was removed.
It was not clear if the burglary was related to the vehicle larcenies.
