A huge crowd turned out for music and fireworks in downtown Riverhead last night.
The annual event hosted by the Riverhead Business Improvement District drew the biggest crowd yet, with more than a thousand people jamming the Peconic River parking lot, the riverfront boardwalk and the sidewalks to view a spectacular after-dark fireworks display.
Brady Rymer and the Little Band that Could got the crowd dancing for a couple of hours before the fireworks got underway, under clearing skies and balmy temperatures.
“The weather is perfect. The crowd is fantastic — just a great time all the way around,” BID Management Association director Bobby Hartmann said last night.
“We’re very pleased with how this turned out,” he said.
The throngs of people included local residents and visitors from out of the area alike for the free concert and fireworks.
A woman from West Babylon, who was there with her daughter and grandchildren said they’ve attended in the past and look forward to it.
“It’s a nice, family-friendly event. We enjoy it very much,” she said just before the fireworks began.
The fireworks are staged and set off in Grangebel Park, giving people on Main Street and all along the waterfront a clear and up-close view of the show.
