Riverhead defeated Sachem North 13-2 at the Pulaski sports complex yesterday.
Riverhead came out very sharp, controlling the play for extended periods of time throughout each quarter. Except for a 20-second lapse, which resulted in two quick Sachem goals, the Blue Waves were a total team, both offense and defense. At the half Riverhead led 6-2.
Riverhead dominated the second half, winning face-offs with its defense consistently shutting Sachem down, while the Blue Wave offense struck for another seven goals. Goalie Jacob Coleman made key saves to shut out Sachem in the second half.
Riverhead (4-3 in League I, 6-3 overall) next faces Smithtown East (5-1 in League I, 6-2 overall) at home on Wednesday, April 19. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
