Dear Editor:
Thank you for your story which highlighted the fundraising efforts of Denise Lucas benefitting the Riverhead Animal Shelter. I know firsthand the efforts that many volunteers have made at the shelter; I used to volunteer with RSVP, an East End animal rescue group.
Although I no longer live on Long Island, I have always admired the passion and commitment that certain members of the Riverhead community displayed. I fondly remember picking up litter with Jesse Goodale and Barbara Blass, walking shelter dogs with Gina Rizzo and working on the “Riverhead Recycles” campaign with former members of the town board.
I can only hope that the current town board and the town supervisor will further Denise’s efforts and bring to fruition a beautiful new shelter for these poor creatures.
