The second annual Trunk-or-Treat event drew a large crowd to Ludlam Avenue Park in Riverside yesterday.

“It’s wonderful to see the overwhelming support of the community,” Riverside Rediscovered community liaison Angela Huneault said. “This is what it’s all about, getting together and having fun, using this beautiful park and enjoying ourselves together.”

Mini-vans, cars and pick-up trucks displayed their decorated trunks, filled with spider webs, tombstones and skeletons, while children of all ages collected candy, played in the park, blew giant bubbles and painted with the help of their parents. Hot dogs, hot chocolate and other treats were also offered by the event sponsors: Riverside Rediscovered, Flanders Riverside Northampton Community Association and Truth Community Church.

Huneault explained that the event, which was attended by as many as 300 people, is a “fun, free and safe” way for kids to enjoy Halloween.

Riverhead resident Pauline Williams agreed and said that safety was important for her, which is why she decided to attend Trunk-or Treat with her family.

“I saw the event on Facebook and I thought that it was a way for kids to get out and be safe, just a space where they can run around and play and have a good time,” she said.

“We look forward to this event being even bigger and better next year,” Huneault said.
